{"id":356,"date":"2012-01-17T15:45:22","date_gmt":"2012-01-17T15:45:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/yachtracing.biz\/life\/?p=356"},"modified":"2012-01-17T15:45:22","modified_gmt":"2012-01-17T15:45:22","slug":"dee-caffari-oman-sail-womens-crew","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/yachtracing.biz\/life\/2012\/01\/dee-caffari-oman-sail-womens-crew\/","title":{"rendered":"Caffari Announces Oman Sail Female Crew For Sail Arabia."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yachtracing.biz\/blog\/2011\/12\/dee-caffari-oman-sail-1\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-358\" title=\"Oman Sail Womens Team with Dee Caffari\" src=\"http:\/\/yachtracing.biz\/life\/files\/2012\/01\/oman-sail-women.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"http:\/\/yachtracing.biz\/life\/files\/2012\/01\/oman-sail-women.png 600w, http:\/\/yachtracing.biz\/life\/files\/2012\/01\/oman-sail-women-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>World record-breaking British sailor <a title=\"Dee Caffari\" href=\"http:\/\/www.yachtracing.biz\/blog\/tag\/dee-caffari\/\">Dee Caffari<\/a> has announced her (W)Oman Sail crew for the Sailing Arabia Tour (SATT) next month.<\/p>\n<p>The second edition of Sailing Arabia \u2013 The Tour joins together the <a title=\"Yacht Racing in the Middle East\" href=\"http:\/\/www.yachtracing.biz\/blog\/category\/country-news\/middle-east\/\">nations of the Gulf<\/a> and international crews in two weeks of racing around the Arabian Coast.\u00a0It provides a regional, and winter, alternative to Le Tour de France \u00e0 la Voile, racing will take place across two classes \u2013 the FARR 30 and the M34, and will include five offshore legs, each finished with inshore racing.<\/p>\n<p>The Al Thuraya Bank Muscat crew includes the first recruits of <a title=\"Oman Sail\" href=\"http:\/\/www.yachtracing.biz\/blog\/tag\/oman-sail\/\">Oman Sail<\/a>\u2019s Women\u2019s Programme, an initiative launched in October 2011, which boasts Dee Caffari and double Olympic gold medallist Shirley Robertson as ambassadors. The four Omani women selected to join the crew are Intisar Al Tobi, Raya Al Habsi, Tahira Al Yahyai and Khulood Al Kindi. These exceptional women have been selected from 30 participants of Oman Sail\u2019s Women Sailing Program, a unique program that aims to create a safe, informative and culturally appropriate environment for the women and contribute to their development in the sport of sailing.<\/p>\n<p>During the intensive training and selection process, the women were coached and mentored by their international professional teammates, including Dee. She commented:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHaving an all-female team in SATT is a bold initiative and one that I am honoured to be involved in. They are brimming with enthusiasm and are keen to absorb the knowledge being imparted to them. They know they are being exposed to a first class crew and really want to do their best to contribute to the success of the team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have Christine Briand (FRA) as our Navigator and Tactician. Christine has a wealth of both offshore and match racing experience. Her ability to play a tactical game and make the crucial decisions at the right time is invaluable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKatie Pettibone (USA) will be putting her trimming skills to test in the engine house of the boat, as the mainsail trimmer, while at the sharp end of the action will be Claire Pruvot (FRA). Claire is looking ahead for an Olympic medal this year so we are lucky to have her acting as our bowman for The Tour. She is passionate about the sport and will inject her enthusiasm and passion for the sport with Olympic class accuracy,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the middle of the boat working in the pit is Hannah Morris, (NZL).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBeing a true international boat Hannah is representing the Southern Hemisphere and comes from a background of match racing so will be at home pitting her skills against identical boats on this race course,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hannah will be replaced by round the world sailor, Briton Emma Westamott, for the final leg.<\/p>\n<p>Trimming for maximum speed is Mary Rook (GBR). Speaking about Mary\u2019s <a title=\"Olympic Sailing News\" href=\"http:\/\/www.yachtracing.biz\/blog\/category\/regattas\/olympics\/\">Olympic<\/a> hopes, Dee forecasts her rise to glory in 2016:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMary has been training with Olympic squads and has been sailing all over the world as part of world class teams, with her focus to date on match racing and keelboats she is a real asset.
