We asked designer Merfyn Owen from Owen Clark how racing impacts sailing design at the re-dedication of Mike Golding’s IMOCA Open 60 yacht Gamesa.
Merfyn talks about many of the innovations that have come out of short-handed racing yachts like the IMOCA 60 including autopilot systems, furling sails, energy systems and more.
Many of the boats at the Southampton Boat Show feature systems and designs that have been tested to the limits in events like the Vendee Globe.
