Torvar Mirsky Talks About Big Decisions.

Sailing is still a relatively amateur sport. Getting paid to sail is a luxury that most sailors never get the opportunity to do. Unlike motorsport or football, there are not armies of talent scouts looking for the next star, there is no yearly draft of players from one team to another and most sailors don’t have commercial managers or agents acting on their behalf.

In this interview with Hannah White, The Wave Muscat’s Torvar Mirsky talks about having to manage a career based on a changing landscape. Having to learn new skills on multihulls, having to make decisions about when to move to the America’s Cup and with which team.

It’s an interesting insight into the way in which sailors try to balance competing opportunities.

Meanwhile, Torvar’s team-mates are making choices around what to do as well as the Match Racing Tour. Graeme Spence is training with Team China in Plymouth, Kinley Fowler will sail with Ben Ainslie on the Oman Air sponsored Extreme 40 and Kyle Langford will continue his role on the Wave Muscat Extreme 40.

The Match Racing Team has moved into 3rd place on the World Match Racing Tour with a win in St Moritz and with old rivals like Adam Minoprio not competing in the event in Bermuda and Double points on offer for the final event in Malaysia, the team still has a chance of doing well in 2011.
